The World Travel Awards hosted in Mexico resulted in 6 prizes for Peru, but probably not the ones you’d expect.

Mexico hosted World Travel Awards 2017 in which Peru came away with 6 of the 48 prizes in South America.

Peru won Best Green Destination, reflecting the country’s dazzling array of natural environments and biodiversity. The timing is perfect as Peru recently announced a new protected area at Tres Cañones in Cusco.

Peru also won a number of prizes in the lodging department: Best Casino Resort, Best Airport Hotel, Lead Business Hotel, and Leading Resort.

To learn the identities of these 4 winners, check out the complete prize listing here.

Finally, Peru also brought home the prize for Leading Tourist Board, reflecting PromPeru’s efforts in forging an effective national brand in Marca Peru.

Surprisingly, Peru did not win Best Culinary destination which it has held since 2012. This year, that prize went to Argentina.

All the more reason for Peru’s national soccer team to beat Argentina’s in a big world cup qualifier this coming October…
