Peru is World’s #2 Exporter of Mangoes

No joke, Peru is the second-biggest exporter of mangoes in the world!  So who is buying all these mangoes?

Fresh Plaza reports from 2015 to 2016, Peru increased their mango exports by 1.3% making the fruit the country’s 5th most exported agricultural product.

Who is buying all these mangoes?

Major destinations include the Netherlands (38%), the United States (28%), and the United Kingdom (9%).

Even if we take the USA out of this mix, the Netherlands and United Kingdom alone are responsible for almost half of Peru’s mango business.

This isn’t the 1st time we’ve heard about Peru’s mangoes this year.  Back in May, Peru passed Brazil as a mango exporter and now holds 2nd place in the world, only behind Mexico.

As the competition with Brazil shows, it’s all about timing, as Peru’s season allowed it to harvest and sell earlier to get a jump-start.  Can Peru’s mangoes keep up the pace?
