Peru’s ex-President Alberto Fujimori has written a letter to supporters, after being hospitalized last Wednesday over complications arising from his latest surgery.

In the letter, shown by TV show Cuarto Poder, Fujimori says he will not let his health issues defeat him, RPP reported.

"You can be confident that with your prayers, encouragement and support, I will not be beat, I will face the battle over my health with the same energy that you know,” Fujimori said in his letter.

The former president also said he remembered the day of his first presidential election.

"In this small and unexpected break in my life, almost a quarter of a century later, I remember the fellow citizens and people of Peru who supported me in the biggest electoral revolt in our history, in June 1990, and later joined me in the difficult task of rebuilding the country and laying the foundations for a new Peru.”

> >Fujimori was hospitalized last Wednesday night after complications arising from his latest surgery, in which doctors treated the former president’s mouth ulcers.

Fujimori’s doctor, Congressman Alejandro Aguinaga, said the wound on the former president’s tongue had opened days earlier, and the swelling had continued to grow, El Comercio reported.

Last week, Aguinaga said Fujimori has seen a decline in his health after this latest – and fourth – intervention over his mouth ulcers.
