Peru has the second slowest internet speeds in Latin America, ahead only of Bolivia, according to the Cisco Global Cloud Index.

The study, cited in El Comercio, found that Peru’s infrastructure was among the least prepared in the region to start implementing cloud computing.

Furthermore, the study predicted that worldwide internet traffic at data centers was expected to increase by 4 in the next 4 years, meaning that cloud computing would account for 64 percent of internet traffic, up from the current 39 percent.

According to Alba San Martin, head of Cisco Peru, Latin America’s cloud computing is increasing by 38 percent per year, and will account for 63 percent of internet traffic by 2016.

A study carried out by Dominio Consultores found that 15 percent of Peruvian businesses (with billings over $40 million), are already using cloud computing, a figure which is expected to grow to 50 percent in the next couple of years, El Comercio reported.
