Diego Elias of Peru won his first match in the British Junior Open Squash Championships in England after defeating Czech Vojtech Babista.
Elias won the victory 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 11-1) in the Under-19 category in Sheffield, England, advancing him on to the next round.
At the age of 18, the young pro squash player is eager to redeem his loss in the finals of last year’s British Open. Although he took a hit in the finals, he went on to win the Scottish Junior Open and the 2014 WSF World Junior Squash Championships, arguably the biggest event in the world of junior squash.
His achievements have made him an icon on the South American continent, and more so in his home country.
He’s expected to do well in this round of the British Open and will have to beat the tournament’s second favorite, Egypt’s Omar El Atmas, to claim the trophy.The junior is a professional and highest ranked in his age group of squash.
