The Ministry of Defense (Mindef) announced that in 2019 the Peruvian Government is planning to purchase two radars for air control with the goal of fighting drug trafficking.
“The announcement was made by the head of the area, José Huerta. The official told Andina that he expects the purchase to take place towards the end of the year”, El Comercio said.
At the moment, Peru owns two radars used exclusively for airspace control. One is located in Madre de Dios and the other one will be installed in Pucallpa.
“Huerta added that investment projects in their sector are aimed at the new roles of the Armed Forces, such as disaster risk management, as well as the control of internal order”, the aforementioned media said.
