Over the weekend, November 7 to the 9, Peruvian athletes earned the glory at the World Cup of Artistic Gymnastics, held in Medellin, Colombia.
Mariana Chiarella’s floor act was a gold winning performance. This, as well as her sixth place spot on the beam, added to the young female athlete’s total score of 13,525 points, edging out competitors from Slovenia and Portugal, who earned second and third place respectively.
Other national standouts were Mario Berrios, who had a sixth-place jumping performance, and Ariana Orrego who ranked eighth in the uneven bars. Along with Mauricio Gallegos, the aforementioned Peruvian gymnasts all qualified for the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
Both Orrego and Chiarella had recently represented Peru in China
Other participating countries were Latvia, Finland, Slovenia, Portugal, Croatia, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Japan, Mexico, Panama and Dominican Republic.
The World Cup of Artistic Gymnastics is a competition that occurs five times a year.Mariana Chiarella was the national pride at the weekend competition held in Colombia.
