Peruvian volleyball team wins gold at South American championships


After defeating Argentina 3-0 in the finals, the Peruvian U-15 girls claimed gold at the Youth Girls’ South American volleyball championship.

In the Carmela Estrella Coliseum in Chosica, Peru, the Peruvians competed to win the three sets by scores of 25-21, 30-28 and 25-21. Although narrowly winning the final, the girls team at times held leads up to five points.

Argentina fought hard and in the second set was leading 19-23 to Peru. In the end, the Peruvian team closed the set 30-28.

From Nov. 6-9 five countries battled for the gold. Beginning in a round robin, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Uruguay each had their chance at gaining the highest ranking.

On Nov. 8, last Saturday, Peru knocked out Chile in two sets to advance to the final. On Nov. 9 the Peruvian U-15 girls proved champions at the Youth Girls’ South American Championship. The U-15 girls won gold at the Chosica coliseum in Peru.
