Peruvians worried after Russians predict ‘devastating earthquake’

Two Russian scientists have caused commotion among some Peruvians, after claiming Peru would experience a devastating earthquake this Friday.

According to La Republica, Victoria Popova and Lidia Adrianova – self proclaimed UFO experts – said the earthquake would be unlike anything seen by humanity before, and would even be felt in some parts of the United States.

The Russians made their prediction during 14th Annual UFOlogical Conference at Capilla del Monte, Argentina, saying they had decoded alien messages left at several archeological sites, such as Machu Picchu, Chavin de Huantar, and the Nazca lines.

The earthquake, Popova claims, would be the first in a series of three earthquakes around the world, before a great global catastrophe.

News of the Russians’ prediction spread through social media sites, worrying many Peruvians.

Hernando Tavera, head of Peru’s National Geophysical Institute, asked Peruvians to remain calm, and reminded them that it was impossible to predict earthquakes, and said that Peru experienced tremors every day.

“They are interpreting messages that have allegedly been left by alien civilizations, but these interpretations are completely subjective,” Tavera was quoted as saying by La Republica.

Geologist Patricio Valderrama argued the Russians’ claims were akin to fortune telling.

“Their claims have no scientific basis. Predicting an earthquake is on the same level as seeing something in a crystal ball,” he said.
