Since last Thursday, August 1, supermarkets, retail stores, convenience stores and other establishments that hand plastic bags with the purchased products will be charged a tax levied on the acquisition in Peru.
However, according to information from El Comercio, sales that take place in small markets and warehouses under the Régimen Único Simplificado (Simplified Single Regime), or RUS for its name in Spanish, will not be charged the Plastic tax.
“As established in Article 2 of the Plastics Law, establishments must charge, for each bag they deliver, at least a sum equivalent to the market price, and the consumer must be explicitly informed”, you can read in El Comercio.
For each bag the establishment gives the customer, he or she will be charged the S / 0.10 of the tax, plus the cost of each one of the bags itself.
