President Humala arrives in Russia for APEC meeting

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala arrived in Vladivostok, Russia on Friday, where he will be taking part in the 21-nation Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economic leaders’ meeting this weekend.

Upon arrival at the international airport of Vladivostok, the Peruvian leader was received by his Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo and Trade and Tourism Minister Jose Luis Silva Martinot.

The 20th APEC Summit opens Saturday with the first retreat of leaders at the newly built campus of the Far Eastern Federal University, or FEFU.

On the agenda will be trade and investment liberalization, regional economic integration, supply chains as well as sustainable and balanced development.

During the second retreat on Sunday, the leaders will discuss ways to strengthen food security and promote growth through innovation.

President Humala will hold bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard at the summit on Saturday.

The next day he is scheduled to hold talks with International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde, Mexican President Felipe Calderon, Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
