Eduardo Ferreyros, Peruvian Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, joined President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski in New York for an official visit to meet with alpaca buyers in the United States. The focus of the gathering was to invite the buyers to attend Alpaca Moda and persuade them to increase their imports of alpaca from Peru.
“I have met with many U.S. companies that import finished alpaca products—designed with the New York lifestyle in mind— and we are very optimistic about their demand; they are aware of the fiber’s high quality,” Ferreyros said.
Alpaca Moda will take place October 26-28 in Arequipa, Peru. The event which is in its third year looks to promote the Alpaca Peru brand and alpaca products as well as open new trade opportunities. At least 80 buyers from 25 countries including the United States, France, Japan, and Germany are expected to attend.
According to Andina.com, “The United States accounted 52% of alpaca apparel imports in 2015, totaling US $23.5 million.” The Peruvian government encourages U.S. buyers to attend the Alpaca Moda event.
