Qatar’s Emir arrives in Peru ahead of meeting with Humala

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the ruling Emir of Qatar, will meet with President Ollanta Humala on Thursday morning, El Comercio reported.

According to the daily, the emir aims to strengthen bilateral relations with the Andean nation, and increase relations in trade, investment, and tourism.

Peruvian Ambassador to Qatar Julio Florian said "There will be agreements on the political-diplomatic front, between the chambers of commerce and state news agencies, and pacts in the fields of education, legal services and mining.”

Sheikh Hamad arrived in Lima on a private plane on Wednesday and was received at the airport by Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo.

The emir is also expected to meet with the country’s president of Congress, Victor Isla, and Enrique Mendoza, head of the judiciary.

Sheikh Hamad’s visit to Peru is part of a tour of South American countries, which includes visits to Colombia and Ecuador.

He is accompanied by Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani, as well as a delegation of high-level officials.
