A leading country in gastronomy cannot and should not have high rates of malnutrition and anemia. For eight years, the NGO Action Against Hunger (Acción Contra el Hambre) has been supported by Peruvian diners, chefs and restaurants to continue working for better food and nutrition for children in Peru. This Tuesday, October 1, the VIII edition of the largest gastronomic and solidarity initiative in the country: “Restaurants Against Hunger” will begin.
The campaign that offers solidarity dishes to Peruvian diners will run until November 30 and expects to add more than 450 establishments and restaurants, throughout the country. Action Against Hunger raises funds by selling dishes.
In addition to developing various projects nationwide, this year, all that is collected will go to the child malnutrition reduction project in the district of Santiago de Lucanamarca, in Ayacucho.
Since 2018, the organization’s work has allowed reducing chronic malnutrition in that district by 2.4%, in children under 5 years; and in 11% anemia in children under 3 years; thanks to an integral work articulated with the families of the community, and the support of public and private institutions.
Last year, 350 restaurants participated. This year, the goal is 450. The establishments that wish to participate can find more information on https://www.restaurantescontraelhambreperu.org/.
