In the Brazilian program ‘Total Football’ the best coach in South America was chosen and panelists said important things about Gareca.
Peru’s qualification to the Russia 2018 World Cup was thanks to Ricardo Gareca, who decided to accept the challenge and achieved an unforgettable feat. This earned him to be nominated for the best coach of the South American Qualifiers on DirecTV.
In the program ‘Total Football’ they put together the finalist team with the presence of Ricardo Gareca, Tite, and Néstor Pékerman.
The winner was Tite, but the majority of the panelists said that it should have been the coach Ricardo Gareca. “I respect the vote but I do not share it, the best was Ricardo Gareca by far,” said the presenter, Pablo Giralt.
Instantly, there was a debate on the set and Gustavo Cherquis, a journalist who always supported the Peruvian National Team said that all the players in Brazil have a hierarchy, they all are international players, while Gareca directed a team that had not qualified to a World Cup in 36 years.
Finally, to close the debate that is seen on YouTube, Giralt again made clear his position: “The chosen one was Tite, but I’ll stay with Gareca, for me Gareca was superlative, taking Peru to the World Cup is almost utopian, impossible … what he did was impressive.”
