The National Network of Lawyers for the Defense of the Family (RENAFAM) in Peru will appeal a ruling in the first instance that ordered the civil registration of a homosexual marriage contracted by two men in the United States.
According to information from the website Aci Prensa, on August 7, 2019 it was known by an article published by El Comercio of a ruling of the Sixth Constitutional Court of the Superior Court of Lima that “declared founded – in part -” the lawsuit filed by two men who were married in New York on April 1, 2015 and were seeking to legalize their status in the South American country.
“In a statement issued on August 7, RENAFAM regretted that ‘once again’ a homosexual marriage is legally recognized in the country, and described as ‘gross’ and as a ‘new attack on our legal security,’ Judge Rocío’s sentence del Pilar Rabines, in charge of the case read”, you can read in Aci Prensa.
Since RENAFAM considers that this legal recognition of the marriage between two men that took place in a foreign country is wrong, they are seeking to appeal the court’s decision.
“Marriage is a public order because it is promoted constitutionally by the State. Therefore, it is not possible to recognize any foreign provision that contravenes it, before, it must be approved through constitutional reform,” said the lawyers’ association RENAFAM.
