Mark Menzies, the business correspondent for the United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister for Peru, Chile and Colombia, is in Lima this week, with the objective to identify new areas of cooperation to promote trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Peru.
Menzies is accompanied by a delegation of 15 government representatives and British companies, including Arup, MACE, Clifford Chance, Crossrail, UK Export Finance and the City of London, according to information from Gestión.
“The commercial envoy of the United Kingdom will begin the first meeting of the joint working table on infrastructure, which will be held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance”, the media said, adding that the public-private work table will provide a mechanism to share experiences and good international practices, focusing on the prioritization, financing, procurement, management and delivery of large infrastructure projects in Peru.
Currently, the United Kingdom is the largest foreign investor in Peru with the Quellaveco project of Anglo American, which is valued at $5,300 million US dollars. Most of their investments (more than 50%) in the country are in the mining sector, but trade is diversifying to other areas, such as sustainable infrastructure and health.
“The visit of Mark Menzies this week will mark a milestone in our bilateral relationship, as we launch the Joint Working Table,” said British Ambassador to Peru Kate Harrisson.
