The Judicial Branch in Peru ordered that the emergency oral contraceptive (AOE), also known as the morning-after pill, be distributed free of charge in all establishments of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
Through its Twitter account, the First Constitutional Court of the Superior Court of Justice of Lima orders Minsa to inform and distribute the AOE (Levonorgestrel) in all State Health Centers, according to information from Andina.
This pill is part of a project (Family Planning Health Technical Standard) carried by Minsa to increase access to contraceptive methods in women and adolescents in the country.
“According to the Demographic and Family Health Survey (Endes) 2017 of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), 13.4% of adolescents aged 15 to 19 were mothers or became pregnant for the first time, which represented an increase in 0.7% with respect to the previous year when the index was 12.7%”, said Andina.
