“An anonymous fan took out a page of personal ads in the Buenos Aires daily Clarin on Tuesday in an unusual appeal for Peru’s Argentina-born manager, Ricardo Gareca, to stay in the job”, said on Tuesday ESPN.
Currently, the coach is in Argentina on holiday. He led Peru to its first World Cup in 36 years and he still hasn’t decided if he will be returning to the Andean country to continue training the national team.
“He has not yet decided whether to remain in charge or seek a new challenge, and the passionate Peru fan took to the small ads in a bid to convince the 60-year-old manager to stay and lead the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar”, the media explained.
The ad read as follows:
“GARECA, come home to PERU 32 million unconditional (fans) are waiting for you to take us to QATAR/Don’t think about it/RETURN/#Garecareturn”.
They were almost a hundred ads that took an entire page of the newspaper, who confirmed that the amount spent was of $1,130 for the spaces in the classifieds section.
Gareca commented that he was very thankful for the affection shown.
