Last Monday Peru experienced another earthquake, this time in Huancavelica and of a 5.2-magnitude. However, this is just one of the 237 quakes that according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) have occurred so far in 2019.
That same day other three tremors took place in the cities of Ayacucho and Junín and one of them was felt in Lima.
“According to statistics from the IGP, the largest quake this year was of 7.7-magnitude in Pastaza (Loreto)”, El Comercio explained. This was an earthquake that happened in Ecuador that was also felt in Peru on February 22.
During the firsts months of 2018, 156 earthquakes were registered, 95 of them perceived by the population in Peru.
Earthquakes will continue to happen in Peru because the country is located in the region of the Ring of Fire where most of the volcanic and telluric activity takes place on Earth.
