Imagine visiting the diverse landscapes of our country with your 4×4: crossing the extensive deserts of the coast and testing your skill at the wheel on sloping dunes, or visiting the impressive mountain chains of the Sierra and penetrating the jungle on roads of mud and clay.
The idea appeals to you, but you do not dare to embark on such an adventure alone? Well, this fun and adrenaline filled trip comes with a group 4×4 drivers who, like you, share a passion for their vehicles as well as for trips in the countryside.
Tracción 4×4 can be found in Arequpia, to the South of Peru. This group, having emerged in 2001, was conceived with the aim of creating a new type of travelling, an experience combining driving skills with adventure tourism. "We were creating our own routes, discovering sites which never before had been tracked by a vehicle and linking villages of beautiful mountains and valleys.
To date, we have visited about 90% of Peru and organized international expeditions to different areas of South America" says Juan Carlos Paredes, founder of Tracción 4×4.
What are the requirements for this type of voyage? The most important thing is to have a two-wheel-drive vehicle in good condition. The second – not the least negotiable – requirement is to have a great spirit of adventure and the willingness to work in teams, as often things get complicated on (or off) the road. Due to the climate, mechanical failure, or other reasons the expedition may be detained only to continue driving the long hours needed to complete the deadlines. This is where you need patience and good humor the most.
Altaruta 4×4 stems from a university project from 1999, and two years later it was established as an enterprise. That is to say, going beyond being an Off Road Group, Altaruta offers various services related to 4×4 vehicles. On the one side they organize voyages and expeditions, and on the other, they offer equipment and driving courses.
For more demanding travelers, this company has created a new notion of journey. "We do all-inclusive, 5 stars tours, with a cook who can prepare Japanese food as well as any kind of meat. We also offer fishing classes and even massages by the sea. We are constantly thinking about improving our customers’ experience without damaging the ecosystem of the places we visit, always concerned with the preservation of the environment" emphasizes Francisco León, head of operations.
If you have an adventurous spirit and want to leave the road without being an experienced driver, if you want to leave the city behind and share the fresh air with your family and friends, if you want to get to know inhospitable places and get the juice out of your 4×4, this is your chance. Embrace it!
