Two earthquakes shake Peru’s coast

Two earthquakes shook Peru’s coast on Monday night and early Tuesday.

According to Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) the first quake measured 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale at occured at 9:32 pm on Monday.

The quake’s epicenter, the IGP said, occurred 86 kilometers southeast of Pisco, 34 kilometers beneath the surface. The quake was also felt in Chincha and Ica.

The second quake shook the city of Chimbote at 12:12 am on Tuesday, and measured 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale. The epicenter occurred at sea, 160 kilometers southwest of Ancash, and had a depth of 22 kilometers.

Civil Defense authorities did not report injuries or damages from either earthquake, according to Peru21.
