Joran van der Sloot, a Dutchman who is serving a 28-year sentence on murder charges – has reportedly impregnated a Peruvian woman.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed Van der Sloot confirmed the pregnancy in a telephone conversation with the paper.
Last year local media claimed Van der Sloot – who earlier this year was sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder of Stephany Flores – had fathered a child with 22-year-old Leidy Figueroa Uceda.
Van der Sloot’s lawyer Maximo Altez, confirmed to The Associated Press that Figueroa Uceda was registered as Van der Sloot’s conjugal visitor, but did not confirm the pregnancy.
Rumors surrounding Van der Sloot’s potential paternity come 4 months after Peru’s Supreme Court approved the Dutchman’s extradition to the United States, where he is wanted on extortion charges.
Van der Sloot – who would only be extradited after serving his sentence in Peru – could attempt to resist the extradition if he became a Peruvian citizen.
Last July Altez said the Dutchman will get married in the Miguel Castro Castro prison later this year.
