Vargas Llosa: ‘Humala has fulfilled his promises’

Nobel prize wining author Mario Vargas Llosa has once again expressed his support for President Ollanta Humala and his administration.

During an interview with Terra, Vargas Llosa said he supported Humala because of “fear that Keiko Fujimori would win.”

“The daughter of the dictator, which would have meant the absolution of a dictatorship which was very corrupt and very violent.”

Humala, Vargas Llosa said, has so far “thoroughly fulfilled what he promised during the second [electoral]round.”

“[…] He has respected democratic institutions, freedom of press, freedom of criticism in a flawless manner, and has also respected the market economy.”

The author also highlighted Humala’s commitment to encourage investment, stimulate businesses, and his promise not to nationalize firms.

“Peru continues to grow and the middle classes continue to grow,” Vargas Llosa added.
