Yet another ancient Inca wall has been defaced in Cusco this week.

According to Cusco’s Regional Directorate of Culture (DRC), an Inca wall at the Rumi Wasi archaeological site was spray painted this week.

Alfredo Mormontoy Atayupanqui, director of Research and Surveys at the DRC, said specialists had been called to deal with the cleaning of the wall.

Mormontoy added that given the size of the archeological park, it was difficult to patrol the whole area, but confirmed there is security personnel on site, state news agency Andina reported.

News of this latest graffiti comes a day after Cusco officials announced that a portion of an ancient Inca stone wall, in the historic center of Cusco, had been defaced with a permanent marker.

David Ugarte, head of Cusco’s DRC, regretted the drawing, and considered it an attack on the nation’s cultural heritage, and asked police to investigate.

“I also ask the provincial municipality to provide us with footage from the video surveillance camera that has been installed, in order to identify the perpetrators of this crime,” Ugarte said.
