A fundraising event honoring the music and memory of punk legend Joe Strummer comes to Lima this August.
StrummerJam 2017 is a fundraising event to honor the music & memory of punk legend Joe Strummer (The Clash) and runs throughout August. Now in its 2nd year, StrummerJam will be present in England, United States, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Spain & Croatia – more still due to come online.
You can think of StrummerJam as a fundraising platform where all StrummerJams are independently organized by fans of Joe Strummer. Organizers need to nominate a local non-profit that uses music as part of its program as the beneficiary of their event.
For the first time, StrummerJam will be in Peru, on the 23rd of August at La Noche in Barranco: “StrummerJam Lima: A beneficio de Warmi Rock Camp Perú“.
The event is being organized by Lima musician Natalia Vajda Viacava the co-founder of Warmi Rock Camp Perú, a non-profit organization where through music education and mentoring, it seeks to ensure that girls and youngsters build healthy self-esteem and find their own voice.
The StrummerJam project is being developed and led by Steve Mullen a Londoner now living in Miraflores, Lima.
Steve has been running the digital work for the Joe Strummer Foundation since 2008 and is a strong believer in its cause. He tells us “We wanted a way to bring the live music community around the world closer together and help make changes to the world through music…Joe Strummer had a way of bringing people together, uniting them & giving them a voice. Grassroots music, no matter which country, is the lifeblood of the music industry and we’ve seen firsthand that music can change the world around those inspired by it.”
StrummerJam will be raising funds for Music & Memory, Warmi Rock Camp for Girls Peru, Rock School Studios, Musica en Los Barrios, Petworth Town Youth Band & The Joe Strummer Foundation.
