Peru: Undocumented Peruvians Request U.S. Permit After Earthquake

(LIP-ir) -- Peruvian activists in the U.S. are attempting to have the U.S. Government approve a permit which would grant undocumented immigrants from Peru a temporary permit in the United States.

The authorization is being requested as a result of the devastating magnitude-8 earthquake which struck Peru on August 15.

According to Reuters News Agency, the U.S. grants the permit known as the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to countries that have suffered natural disasters or civil wars. The Temporary Protected Status is valid for one year and can be renewed.

RPP News in Peru reported that Sergio Massa, president of the Peruvian American Political Organization in Miami, stated, "We are requesting humanitarian aid, so that the deportation of Peruvians is halted and they are granted the TPS."

Massa reported that a letter, requesting the approval of the permit for Peruvian immigrants, had been sent to U.S. President George W. Bush. He added that copies were also sent to the Secretary of Homeland Security - Michael Chertoff, the Secretary of State - Condoleezza Rice and to other congressmen and U.S. authorities.

It was reported that the approval of the TPS would legalize 500,000 undocumented Peruvians in the U.S. Massa stated he would travel to Lima to request that Peru's Government also solicit the permit.

It is estimated that 1.2 million immigrants, legal and illegal, live in the United States.

I am very happy to heard this because there are alot of people who lost there family because of the earthquake. And would like to go back to see there family who either past away or are now living alone with no place to live in other words help them out.People sometimes gotta think with or head and realize that, that can happen to anyone.I mean why should people be races with us uh.We hispanics basically built USA (sorry but its true).

I mean think about it who does the dirty work HISPANICS.
Who be working on holidays HISPANICS
Who be doing almost anything for money HISPANICS.
Who be standing at 6 am at 7elven to get work to feed there loves ones HISPANICS.

By this am not trying to be races at all.But am Hispanics and proud of it and PERUVIA.And when I heard people say uhmm... "we dont need any more latinos to invade our country its hurts". Cause am a proud latina and I would never say...... We dont need any more tourist to come to our beaches or land and kicks you guys out. Because we are all human and we shall all be treated equal. We are no one to judge only GOD can judge us but not even GOD would judge us so why judge people you dont even know.

It is always good to hear the Importance of what is simply, about the Humanitarian Respects for all Humanbeing and the major Importances of what simply make us Respectable in all aspects of Life,as a humanbeing.
I would based on my personal inner Respect solemly support  this/these issues, that are at present being acknowledge by the Pervurian People,as to what they are simply asking of the (US) and any other Nation in the World.
To fully agree to what was said in the previous statement issued by this publisher & support all that she has expressed in her comments.

My simple Support is for the Human Indigenous Rights,be given acknowledgement for/of the Peruvian Culture,People & Coutry,as be given to/with anyone else in this world.

Question to the World. [What makes you different to the Rest of the World] and [ What makes you think the world is all about you].

I think that it is great that US Government is trying to help people in need. I just hope that just people who the help can get it. Sometimes, i get so upset when  we (hispanics) sometimes try to take advantage of laws like these. I am a student here, I am planning to go  back  to Peru and do something great there. I believe that if Peruvians get well educated , our economy will improve. Our country can became the next China or India, where rich countries are investing money.
