The electronic commerce in the country contributed 5.75% of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2018, and the majority of it is concentrated in Lima.

These numbers come from estimations made by the general manager and founder of the Peruvian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Capece), Helmut Cáceda, according to Andina News Agency.

“He indicated that this percentage is achieved despite Peru being ranked 62 out of a list of 63 countries in digital competitiveness, according to the latest report of the International Institute for Management Development, ‘World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2017’”, the aforementioned news agency revealed.

It was also known that online sales in 2018 in Peru amounted to 3.5 billion US dollars, which equals to 4.1% of what the entire region generated. Cáceda predicts that this figure could increase by 30% this year, but could increase substantially if the government reinforces the digital literacy of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the provinces.

In addition, Cáceda announced that the IX edition of the Program of Specialization in Omnichannel Ecommerce and Digital Marketing will be organized on April 23.
