The average price of medicines in Peru is 30% lower than in the rest of the countries in Latin America. As for generic drugs, they are 79% below the regional average, according to a study carried out by Ipsos.
This report also indicates that Panama and Ecuador have the highest average prices in medicines.
“In the case of generics, the excessive price gap between Peru and the region is worrisome and suspicious”, said to El Comercio Alfredo Torres, president of Ipsos Peru. He also believes that this gap suggests that there are low-quality products in Peru.
“I think that finding 20% cheaper prices is good news, it speaks well of the Peruvian market and the Peruvian economy, but if it is 80% it leads to suspicion”, he added while in the seminar “Analysis of Medicine Access in Peru”, organized by Comex Peru.
