The chef-owner of Kjolle has risen to the top of the culinary world with her own colorful and thoughtful flair.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards recognize the top chef and restaurants across the globe. Peruvian restaurants and chefs have repeatedly been featured in their lists, including Central, Maido and León’s Kjolle. While Virgilio Martinez, husband of León, continues to win accolades for his pioneering work at Central, Pía León has spread her own wings co-founding the culinary research center and restaurant, Mil, and gaining the spotlight with her unique culinary style at Kjolle that is built on the foundation of using native Peruvian ingredients.

Pía was named best female chef in Latin America in 2018. Now, she is named 2021’s World’s Best Female Chef. This ascent is testament to the changing landscape of the restaurant industry, where gender disparity is an issue. Learn more about Pía León in the video below.
