The Titanosaur Was The Largest Dinosaur That Lived In What Is Peru Today

According to paleontologists, the Titanosaur was the largest dinosaur that ever inhabited Peru. It was 14 meters long, 5 meters high and could have weighted the same as four modern elephants today.

It is the only dinosaur that can be confirmed to have existed in the Peruvian territory with evidence based on bones,” paleontologist Rodolfo Salas Gismondi, in charge of the Vertebrate Paleotology Department of the aforementioned museum, told El Comercio.

Nevertheless, what is now known as Peru looked very different 68 million years ago: “much of the coast and jungle were submerged underwater, and the temperature was much warmer than today”, El Comercio explained.

This is why most of the remains of the Titanosaur have been found in Bagua, Amazonas, which is one of the few places that used to be above sea level at the time.
Scientists believe that this great dinosaur might have lived during the Cretacic period, which corresponds to 145 – 65 million years ago. They had long necks and were herbivorous animals.
