Yesterday morning a 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook the city of Huánuco in Peru, taking the inhabitants of the area by surprise.

“A strong earthquake struck Peru today [Thursday] in the morning, with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale”, the website Chispa reported.
The quake was felt in the city of Huánuco, according to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP). They also informed that it took place at 10:55 am, local time, at a depth of 30 kilometers and 25 kilometers southeast of Puerto Inca.
No damages or victims were reported.

Peru’s location in the Ring of Fire – which is a large area in the Pacific Ocean that registers about 85% of all of the seismic activity in the world – makes it common for earthquakes to occur in the country.
