Officials from Peru and Japan met in Lima with the objective of holding the third meeting of the subcommittee on the improvement of the business environment, a mechanism created as part of the economic association agreement between the two countries.
Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Edgar Vásquez, said that this subcommittee seeks to be a dialogue mechanism in order to promote the use of the trade agreement and encourage and facilitate bilateral business and trade, according to El Peruano.
“Peru and Japan had a fruitful dialogue in this subcommittee, which involved more than 15 public and private institutions, and addressed various topics of interest such as air and maritime connectivity, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, migration issues, mining investments, among others”, he said.
Between 2014 and 2017, trade between both countries grew by an average of 3% per year, led by Peruvian exports, which grew 6% on average per year during this period. In addition, in 2017, Japan was the fifth commercial partner of Peru.
“We hope that this subcommittee will contribute to further strengthen the business and commercial link with Japan, and further incentivize the investments of that nation in Peru”, he said.
