Peru And Spain Strengthen Cooperation In Defense

Peru and Spain signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding in the field of cooperation in weapons and defense material, which includes the exchange of information on technological development.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Defense, José Huerta Torres, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, Josep Borrell Fontelles, at the Government Palace, said Andina News Agency.

This agreement was made in the presence of President Martín Vizcarra, and the king and queen of Spain, Felipe VI and Letizia Ortiz, who are on an official visit to Peru.

“According to the document, mutual cooperation includes the exchange of information on technological developments in the defense sector and industrial cooperation for the acquisition and export of defense material through government support”, the news agency said.

It also contemplates the exchange of information on foreseeable requirements of defense material and on development projects and specific improvements programmed or applied by any of the countries.

The memorandum of understanding will have a duration of ten years and will be extended automatically for successive periods of similar until any of the participants wishes its termination.
