Lan Peru's investment plan might reach US $240 million dollars this, year including aircraft purchase and crew's training (among other projects), according to the company's board director, Emilio Rodríguez.

Today, the airline launched two new Airbus 319 planes (valued at US $ 60 million dollars each), and it may buy two more aircrafts by the end of the year, depending on the demand.

"Last year we bought four planes, totaling an investment of US $240 million dollars based on strong demand", he said.

Lan Peru is considering to open two or three more international destinations, as well as increasing frequencies to domestic and international destinations.

So what?  They're sure not buying the planes from a Peruvian manufacturer, so Peru isn't realizing a dime.

Writer David N implies that no benefits will accrue to Peru. Well it goes beyond just aircraft purchase. Increase in transportation system is a public good, more traffic, more tourists = more jobs.  I think this is a plus.

W, you missed David's main point: Nothing good is possible in Peru.

On this one, the infamous D.N. is completely right. those planes are an investment for lan chile and training staff....welllll...

this is just propaganda because finally more competition is arriving, anyway continental, delta and forgot the other one, us airways? already took away the u.s. market from them.
