Peru: Central Road blockade causing economic loses amounting US $8.5 millions

The blockade of Peru's Central Road, organized by Doe Run's workers, is causing economic loses of  S/. 25 millions (US $8.5 milion dollars) in Junin region, according to Chanchamayo, Huancayo and Tarma Chambers of Commerce.

The business guilds are requesting the government to have the road cleared as soon as possible, because blockades are not only subject to legal penalty, but is also a menace to many business sectors such as trade, commerce, agriculture, restaurants, hotels, transports and mining.

Gerardo Porras, President of the Huancayo Chamber of Commerce, said that the the transport of export products such as coffee, artichoks, carrots, potatoes, corn and trouts (among many others) is the most damaged economic activity.

Assume this is $US 8.5 million PER DAY or ????. Without proper refrigeration, I assume the food being trucked will spoil and have to dumped. I would be very hesitant to eat trout that may have spoiled due to the road blockage.

If the Labor Minister is telling the truth, and that the Doe Run workers are still being paid, why the road blocks?

It is getting more difficult to know who is telling ALL the truth.

How the government of this third world armpit of a nation cannot keep the roads open and lets morons block the highway is a mystery.  The police and military are totally unprepared, as per usual.

Heck, even the Rhode Island state police could do a better job than these yokel police down here.  Give them a call, Garcia, you imbecile.  They'll get the savages off the roads for ya with six Crown Victorias and one helicopter.

Pretty sad for the people starting new export businesses and trying to better their lives by taking advantage of the trade agreements that Peru has now.  It is a surprise that a bunch of angry farmers don't come out of the hills and start killing the miners and clearing the roads themselves since the gov't can't keep the peace or maintain open roads.
