According to a RPP Noticias information, the Police has detained two members of "Aguante" from Surco, a group of supporters of Universitario de Deportes at Trinchera Norte.

Ronny Ramos Pérez, aka "Bolón" a member of this group, has been accused of pushing her out of the bus, with the aim of stealing her iPod and cell phone.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation is looking forward the capture of 'Bolon', who has time until Friday noon to go to the police to answer the accusations made against him.

Meanwhile, lawyer Manuel Frisancho has asked Defensoría del Pueblo and the Archbishopric of Lima for guarantees for his client, because he is afraid Ramos could be taken under arrest as soon as he goes to the police.

Chilean journalist admits that Peru's pisco sour is better than the Chilean version

Patricio Tapia, a conspicuous Chilean journalist specialized in wine, gave up to the Peruvian pisco: he published an article last week at Wikén magazine of El Mercurio paper, admitting that Peruvian pisco sour is better than the Chilean one.

"Ours is lemon juice of pisco. That's it," he wrote; adding that only in Peru we get that "voluptuous and refreshing mixture of acidity and a sensation of creaminess.”

Tapia analyzes the differences between our pisco and the Chilean one. "The quebranta, which is the base of the most traditional Peruvian piscos, seems to not exist in our country." Tapia explains that in Chile is a common practice to mix stocks, in Peru it's done in a specific way. The acholado pisco always uses aromatic grapes with stocks with more body.

Peruvian pisco isn't brought up in kegs, as the Chilean one, but in steel or plastic crock or in the traditional chalk jar to not to distort the expression of the stock. And one more detail: the year of vintage is indicated at our pisco bottles.

Another important difference is that in Peru water is not needed to lower the level of alcohol. "Peruvians feel it as a sacrilege because it distorts the character of the distillation, so they choose the portion suitable to the gradation of their pisco."

Finally Tapia says Peruvian pisco is more rich and diverse, due to the number of national farmers who try to give a high quality pisco.

The aerial potato, cultivated by 'aeroponía' to get a larger amount of seed of this tuber, could contribute to the food crisis of the world and reduce the effects of the global warming.

Carlos Chuquillanqui, Agronomus Engineer, member of the 'aeroponía' project of Potato International Center (CIP) made this affirmation at an international exposition in Lima to introduce the last researches and projects on roots and tubers.

Chuquillanqui explained that 'aeroponía' tried to get an alternative to produce potato seeds in a effective way, to have control over infections and avoid the use of chemicals.

With this technique, some 45,000 potatoes are produced in seven months time, while using traditional techniques 35,000 potatoes are produced over two years.

Meanwhile, Chuquillanqui pointed out that 'aeroponía', which has already been used in Cerro de Pasco, works only to produce more seeds, but not to farm plants because the process is too expensive.

Movistar spot uses excerpts from Peru's literature

LivinginPeru.com
Isabel Guerra

One of the most famous popular questions in Peru, since the early seventies, is “En qué momento se jodió el Perú?” which means in English, literally, “In what moment did Peru get screwed up?” Many times in Peru's difficult history, Peruvians have helplessly repeated that question, which was first formulated by Zavalita, the main character of Mario Vargas Llosa's Novel “Conversación en La Catedral” (Conversation in The Cathedral).

Nowadays, things are changing positively for the country. Movistar, the cell phone company, not only borrows Zavalita's phrase, but also turns it into a positive motto. Their new television advertisement states “When did Peru get straighten up?” which conveys a message of solidarity: we all can make a difference in our daily lives, to reach the dream that Peruvian Poet Cesar Vallejo's verses express: “cuándo nos veremos con los demás, al borde una mañana eterna, desayunados todos?” (When will we all meet, at the edge of an eternal morning, with a good breakfast?”)

We all can make a difference to improve our country and that's not only a wishful dream, and companies like Movistar are working to help Peruvians keep really in touch with their loved ones and reach people that otherwise would be unreachable. And they convey all of this in this meaningful television advertisement. To see the advertisement, click on the image to the right.

Peru should have a Tourism Ministry, CANATUR says

LivinginPeru.com
Isabel Guerra

Canatur (Chamber of Tourism) President, Fernando Puga, said that, in his opinion, a Tourism Ministry should be created before a Culture Ministry, due to its importance as an economic activities generator.

He said that this is the best time to discuss the establishment of a ministry dedicated exclusively to tourism, and said objections about allegedly creating more bureaucracy or increasing government spending do not have a real background.

"I do not understand why the president of Peru uses this as an argument for not creating a Tourism Ministry, and at the same time creates an Environment Ministry and a Culture Ministry. Those are sectors that are way behind tourism regarding generator of business and economic activities,” he remarked.

Poor Conditions Force Second Consecutive Lay Day for Movistar Peru Classic

Surfline.com

Small surf in the one-foot (0.5 metre) and onshore winds have forced event organizers to call competition off for the day at the Movistar Peru Classic presented by Rip Curl.

Event No. 5 of 7 on the 2009 ASP Women's World Tour, the Movistar Peru Classic is dealing with the challenging logistics of running at the ideal venue of Lobitos, whose sand-bottom left handers have been referred to as the "Superbank in reverse," while staff and surfers stay over an hour's drive north in Mancora. Despite today's less-than-ideal conditions, a good swell is expected Friday.

"There are some small waves out there this morning, but we've opted to call competition off for the day," Richie Porta, ASP Women's World Tour Head Judge, said. "Obviously, with the swell coming, we're opting to wait for much better conditions."

When competition commences, up first will be Melanie Bartels (HAW), 27, Rebecca Woods (AUS), 25, and Alana Blanchard (HAW), 19, doing battle in Heat 1 Round 1 of the Movistar Peru Classic. Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 7am for a possible 7:30am start.

The Movistar Peru Classic presented by Rip Curl will host the ASP Top 17 from November 3 - 8, 2009.

The event will be webcast LIVE via www.aspworldtour.com
