With the aim of reversing the reality that 30% of the food in Peru gets discarded, the first food bank was born four years ago.

“Our mission is to fight against hunger and food waste. In that sense, we are intermediaries. First, we contact producers or supermarkets and they donate the food without commercial value”, Daniela Osores, general manager of the bank told El Comercio.

Food without commercial value can be anything from food that is in good condition but the expiration date is approaching, to package errors and commercial promotions that have ended.

Since, according to Osores, there are thousands of Peruvians suffering from food insecurity, the food bank was created in 2014.
You can also contribute to the cause by donating food or money or if you have a company that produces or sells food.
“With 25 soles a month we can feed a child for this period. We also need volunteers to supervise”, Osores explained.
