According to Peru's Ministry of Health (MINSA), Peru has not confirmed yet any case of AH1N1 flu, disease which has forced another countries to adopt several drastic measures to avoid its spreading.

Peruvian health officers have added that their sector is ready to take any actions that might become necessary, and in constant alert.

They also have remarked that the Ministry has a good stock of all the necessary treatments.

The MINSA recommends, however, to observe carefully all the preventive measures, and states that the sanitary alert is still going on, all around the country.

MINSA also said that as all the passengers arriving in Lima will be screened for flu symptoms, as an additional precaution.

20 kids just died in Puno from the common cold, but they pat themselves on the back about swine flu.  Idiots.

Is this news or an attempt by the government to win some ratings points through little bits of statistics which favor them?

It's kind of like being proud that no one in Peru ever got trampled by an elephant. Of course elephants don't exist in Peru (the zoo maybe being an exception). Does that mean then that elephant tramplings are under control in Peru?

Other countries have already taken care of this flu problem for places like Peru. Airports in the EU, North America, Asia, they've been screening people from the start, so chances are pretty good that those who are infected will be discovered and prevented from travelling anywhere long before the incompetents in Callao would ever encounter them.

Likewise for outbound traffic: it's not like Peruvians are known to be world travellers. The amount of incoming traffic NOT originating from well-equipped airport facilities is probably extremely slim. The amount of Peruvians returning from an overseas vacation is probably even slimmer.

Just because this flu has not shown up yet in Peru doesn't mean it's because the medical facilities are prepared or even on the ball. Looking at the numerous other health-related issues all over the country, it's pretty obvious that they're not.
