Confirmed cases of AH1N1 rose to 2,390

Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) has confirmed 164 new cases of influenza AH1N1, which are currently under medical supervision.

This amounts the total of cases to 2,390.

The new cases are mostly from Lima (49) and the rest come from Callao (5), Áncash (3), Cusco (2), Junín (1), Lambayeque (1) and Cajamarca. (1).

Peru's Health Minister Oscar Ugarte explained that the test to confirm the presence of the virus is not a prerequisite to receive antiviral treatment, so it can be prioritized, especially in cases of high risk, reserving the lab test for inpatients.

Minsa remarked that so far there's no other valid test than the one run by Peru's National Health Institute (INS) United States Navy NIRM.
