The Peruvian Justice delayed a hearing on Sunday to decide whether to send Keiko Fujimori to prison for 36 months, for alleged illegal contributions by Odebrecht to her 2011 campaign for President.
“After being released by an appeals court after spending a week detained, the eldest daughter of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) returned to appear before a court this Sunday”, El Clarín said.
As soon as the hearing began, the defense alleged that there were some documents they still needed to hand over to the prosecution and requested more time to prepare their arguments, which was granted by Judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho “in order to guarantee the full right of defense”.
“I was supposed to be accused with a document that was missing 500 pages,” complained Keiko at a press conference, according to El Clarín
Keiko left the courthouse smiling, hand in hand with her husband Mark Vito Villanella, after the abrupt end of the session, at noon. The judge said he will announce today when the hearing will resume.
Also, the defense lawyer, Guiliana Loza, demanded that Judge Concepcion Carhuancho recuse himself so that the case could be transferred to another court, which the magistrate rejected.
