Last week, Peruvian Ex-President, Ollanta Humala and his wife, Nadine Heredia, were charged for allegedly laundering assets as part of an illegal operation with the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
According to Buenos Aires Times, Humala is, so far, the first former President in Peru to be indicted in relation to the Odebrecht affair. This case has also other former Presidents of the South American country involved: Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Alejandro Toledo and Alan García, recently deceased.
“Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht has admitted to paying $29 million US dollars in bribes in Peru between 2004 and 2015”, the aforementioned media said.
In addition, on Tuesday, attorney general Germán Juárez Atoche said that Humala and Heredia were being accused of leading a criminal organization that laundered assets.
