The Brazilian construction company Odebrecht paid 434 million soles ($131 million US dollars) to the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (SUNAT) of Peru for a tax debt in coercive collection.
“The payment of the debt is made within the framework of the collaboration agreement signed between the Peruvian State and the Brazilian construction company”, T13 informed on Friday. “The resources come from the sale of the shares of the Huallaga company, which has the concession of the Chaglla hydroelectric plant”, they continued.
The cancellation of the debt with SUNAT was one of the commitments adopted by Odebrecht when signing the collaboration agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office investigating the Lava Jato scandal in Peru.
Last week, the Special Prosecutor’s Team investigating the case questioned the former Odebrecht Superintendent in Peru, Jorge Barata, who confirmed that the company delivered illegal contributions to the presidents Alejandro Toledo, Alan García, Ollanta Humala, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, as well as presidential ex-candidates Keiko Fujimori and Lourdes Flores.
In addition to this payment, Odebrecht also paid the first installment of civil compensation for 80 million soles ($24 million US dollars).
