At least two people have died and five others have gone missing after an avalanche in a mining camp in Peru occurred near the Bolivian border.

“The landslide happened at 1:00 am local time in the mining area known as Corimayo (gold river, in Quechua) in the municipality of Ituata, which is located in the province of Carabaya”, Excelsior reported.

The two deceased are two women identified as Jacinta Vargas, 50, and Ruth Tapara, whose age has not yet been determined, and among the missing are five men, the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Additionally, this event has left 22 victims due to destroyed homes.

“A group of volunteer firefighters from Macusani and personnel from the Office of Disaster Risk Management of the province of Carabaya also went to the site”, the aforementioned media said.

They are helping themselves with drones to obtain aerial images that will allow them to have a better panorama of the area and the damages.
