More than 100 cataract surgeries were carried out at the Luis Negreiros de EsSalud hospital, as part of the “Volver a ver” (See again) plan, launched by the Social Security executive president, Fiorella Molinelli, with the aim of reducing the surgical waiting list in this specialty.
“This was reported by Karin Contreras, director of this Chalaco hospital of the Sabogal service network, who explained that the interventions were made on Friday, Saturday and Sunday”, Andina News Agency informed.
Contreras explained that the surgeons applied a technique through which they extract the crystalline lens affected with a cataract by fragmentation and aspiration, to then implant a foldable intraocular lens that allows the patient to recover sight. The surgery lasts 20 minutes and there is no need for sutures.
