Peru Promises To Be Blunt Against Deforestation

Deforestation in Peru has been consistently growing throughout the years and, according to official data, more than 1,500 square kilometers of forests have been destroyed only in 2017, El País said.

“Our responsibility is to see how we stop this deforestation process but also how do we revert it”, Martín Vizcarra, President of Peru said, according to said media.

Last Monday the Good Growth Conference began in the city of Lima and will take place the entire week. In its inaugural session, Vizcarra said that his predecessors were not firm enough in decisions related to deforestation and his government will end the uncontrolled logging and he will change that approach.

“We need to understand that we are fighting against an illegal economy”, Fabiola Muñoz, minister of Agriculture said.
