Peruvian authorities inaugurated on Tuesday the transmission of Digital Terrestrial Television in six cities in the country looking to facilitate access to the technology.
The broadcast was initiated at the facilities of the Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP) in the northern city of Piura, with the participation of President Martín Vizcarra, and the Minister of Culture, Patricia Balbuena.
“In this stage, the transmission will allow access to the digital television signal without having to contract cable or satellite services in the cities of Trujillo, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancayo, Piura and Huánuco”, explained El Deber.
The digitization of the signal commits the Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Radio and Television of Peru, to produce informative and cultural content from the different regions of the country so that they reach a wider audience, according to Balbuena.
She added that it will also allow the IRTP to transmit the emergency alerts of the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) in cases of tsunami threats and other disasters, such as floods, landslides or fires.
