Keiko Fujimori told El Comercio from prison that she has not sought political asylum in any embassy, despite the judicial process she currently faces.
Last Saturday, the Criminal Court of Appeals began the analysis of the request for her legal defense to revoke the preventive detention for 36 months ordered against him by Judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho.
“I have never escaped. If there is something that characterizes me, it is having returned again and again to Peru”, she told El Comercio. “I have not sought asylum despite the fact that several people have suggested it to me”, she continued.
According to her, she is being a victim of abuse by the justice system.
“Today I reaffirm, all these arbitrariness leave serious doubts about the impartiality of a judge who, a priori, would have already decided to sentence me to preventive detention, bombarding the due process,” she claimed, referring to judge Concepción Carhuancho.
Fujimori was jailed on October 31 pending the outcome of a multimillion-dollar corruption probe that has rocked Peruvian politics. So far, the Peruvian prosecution has accused a total of 11 people linked to Fujimori of running a criminal organization to raise illicit funding for her 2011 presidential campaign.
She attended her hearing on Saturday through a video call.
