Professionals from the United Kingdom developed a new study protocol, called CMR (Rapid Cardiac Magnetic Resonance), that will help diagnose in a more precise way, and in 20 to 25 minutes maximum, different heart diseases known as cardiomyopathies and allow timely treatment.
According to a press release from the British Embassy in Peru, patients from MINSA, ESSALUD, and the armed forces will benefit from this software.
“Using the innovative rapid heart magnetic resonance methodology, the project will conduct the scanning of more than 100 patients in January in the hospitals Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital, Air Force Hospital of Peru, Arequipa Hospital and the Central Military Hospital”, they revealed.
The study protocol was presented in the Central Military Hospital where the British Ambassador in Peru, Kate Harrisson, was present.
There, Harrisson informed that a delegation of doctors and experts from the United Kingdom will be in charge of scanning the patients. They will be led by Dr. Malcolm Walker, a cardiologist, UCL Professor of Education, research specialist and founder of the Cardiology Center for Hereditary Hemoglobinopathies, The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute, University College London, together with radiologists and cardiologists from the Central Military Hospital, who were trained in the cardiomyopathy study protocol (CMR).
“During the presentation at the Military Hospital it was pointed out that thanks to the implementation of a new rapid protocol, the examination time will be reduced to 20 or 25 minutes, which is currently 50 minutes to 1 hour on average”, the press release explained.
