The Peruvian designer Rodrigo Huaroto won the second place in the International Youth Design Competition (IYDC) 2018, one of the most important fashion competitions in China where talents from 20 countries were finalists.
“The IYDC 2018 contest, which gives a prize of ¥ 30,000 yuan for second place, is organized by one of the most important institutes of fashion in China, the Beijing Institute of Fashion and Technology (BIFT)”, Andina News Agency reported.
This year 30 finalists were selected, from countries such as Brazil, China, England, Germany, Taiwan, Italy, Holland, Ukraine, among others. In addition, three Peruvians competed among the finalists.
Huaroto is a student of the sixth cycle of the professional career of Design and Fashion Management of Toulouse Lautrec and based his designs on the Andean areas of Peru, where he sought to highlight national folklore through colors and different textures in the designs of the garments.
“Peru is a country full of traditions, myths, legends and folklore. For this reason, the conceptual development of the garments was born in many Andean areas where the color and the use of looms, blankets and fabrics prevail”, he told the media.
Huaroto also confessed feeling very happy after obtaining the award and he is sure that the opportunity will change his life in many aspects.
The contest recognized the three best proposals in the world of fashion with prizes of ¥ 50,000 yuan (first place); ¥ 30,000 yuan (second place) and ¥ 20,000 yuan (third place).
